The Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers honored Choctaw Engineering,
Inc. for an innovative design incorporating a geofabric retaining
wall in Niceville, Florida. The design allowed for maximizing the
available land for construction while preserving and protecting adjacent
wetlands from impacts. We were awarded an honorable mention for this
design in 1998 for the Small Firm Category of the competition.
In 1999, Choctaw Engineering, Inc. also received an Honorable Mention
Award for the Mitchell Center Parking project, a 5.51 acre grassed
parking area for a sports arena on the campus of the University of
South Alabama, located in Mobile, Alabama. An environmentally sensitive
parking area was designed in lieu of the "sea of asphalt"
typical of parking areas of this size. The project included grassed
parking areas, storm water management facilities, and protection of
several large oak trees.
